Welcome

The California Emergency Department (ED) Diversion Projectáwasáconducted by The Abaris Group and supported by the California HealthCare Foundation, based in Oakland, California. The project had two phases.

The goal of the first phase was to measure and publicly report the extent of ambulance diversion by all of the local emergency medical services (EMS) agency areas (36) in California and the hospitals located in those regions.áTo review the findings, please click on Reports and selectáReport One.

The second phase of the project was a collaborative effort among four EMS regions and a select number of hospitals within each of those regions. The goal of the collaborative was to help these regions and hospitals reduce ED and EMS diversion in their respective communities through coaching, data analysis, identifying and implementing best practices, and networking.
